LEGO bricks have been with us from an early age. Today we remember our adventures, among others with sets from the 90s. We have beautiful childhood memories with them and more. LEGO bricks will also be a perfect gift for Children’s Day!
Lego in the 90s
When I reach back to my farthest memories related to LEGO sets, it reminds me of a visit to my friend Damian. His dad was a transport ship and he brought a packet of blocks with a well-known logo from West Germany. After opening the markets in the new Republic of Poland, the stores began to include the assortment available so far mainly in Peweks or in some way legally or less supplied from people who visited Poland’s western neighbors. In Czechoslovakia and East Germany, LEGO bricks and Barbie dolls were much more available. What made these bricks stand out? Definitely the size. So far we have played with large elements of wooden toys. Fun for those times was more like arranging a puzzle. Another distinguishing feature is the vivid colors. As I have already mentioned, so far we played with wooden toys and their possible colors were dull. LEGO sets also introduced various elements that rarely appeared in our traditional buildings, such as doors, windows, tiles and a complete novelty. These little men looked more like elements of models for assembly, like characters being one of the building blocks. Something that may surprise many people today for the children of the ’90s was a breakthrough event. Over time, we got used to the existence of such blocks, and even a slightly cheaper version was created, but known already in the late 1980s in Poland to a group of few children of the Polish toy manufacturer Cobi. LEGO bricks gained cult status after the film was broadcast These little men looked more like elements of models for assembly, like characters being one of the building blocks. The safety of the elements was taken care of and the LEGO Duplo series with larger elements was created, which is still very popular to this day. LEGO Technic sets, which combined elements of blocks and other toys, such as cars and robots, turned out to be a revolutionary event. Nowadays, LEGO bricks do not lose their popularity, and they probably never will. Their durability of workmanship means that sets that are 30 years old and more can be enjoyed by next generations. – Kamil Sawicki

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes – Spiderman
Unfortunately, in my childhood I did not stack LEGO bricks, because my interests were directed in a different direction, and my parents also had more important expenses (than the already expensive LEGO). The situation changed when my son started playing with one of his friends’ sets. Filip is a huge fan of Marvel, especially Spiderman, so for some time we have been expanding our collection of bricks and figures of heroes. We have already arranged, among others Chase motorcycle Spider-Man – 76113, 76114 Mechanical pająk- , chase car – 76133, and plans are further sets – Clash of Venomozaurem – 76,151, and the Mighty Micros S 76055 ( https://pointgames.pl/lego-lego- marvel-super-heroes-mighty-micros-s, c56, p3161, pl.html). It is worth adding that in the meantime we also went through LEGO Marvel Avengers games and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 on PS4. The time spent laying is extremely nice and creative entertainment, so in line with the words from which the blocks were named, I wish you – “leg godt”. – Mateusz Michałek

Before the licenses were created
LEGO bricks have been with me (with short breaks) from early childhood until today and I always consider them to be among the best toys known to mankind. It all started with the ones my older brother owned, mainly from the city and space series (including the phenomenal monorail line). It took just a little imagination to build a General Daimos or Darth Vader using the available elements long before the official Star Wars (or any other licensed) kits were offered. My collection started with a pirate hut and a catamaran of the islanders. And then it was gone: a wreck on a desert island, robots, an underwater base, all kinds of vehicles, a shogun bridge, ancient tombs … and a decade later, the madness started again thanks to the deep-sea fish that I received as a gift from the girl and the minifigures that we started collecting together. In the end, I also got myself a real pirate ship, and even tried my hand at building my own models again. – Damian “Nox” Lesicki
Lego Slizer and movie gadgets
My adventure with LEGO has been going on since the 90s. I remember the first Duplo sets that my German family brought me. Then gradually more and more sets appeared in Poland. As a little history buff, I loved the Adventures sets. My largest set was a South American temple. My mother used to buy bricks for me, thinking that I would become an architect, and here I am … I deal with the history of Spanish-speaking countries. On the way there were also Sliders and other action figures from LEGO Technic. At the age of 7, I thought that playing with blocks intended for older kids would make me an adult faster. Years pass, but I still buy and brag about my LEGO sets. At the beginning I missed something related to pop culture franchises, but in 1999, when the first LEGO Star Wars sets were released, my ambitions were fulfilled. In its time, there was a moment for Harry Potter, superheroes, and recently even Donald Duck, or figures similar to the big Pop heads from Funko.
The fun with Danish bricks continues. Even today the owners of this magical company understood that you cannot refer only to traditional fun. We also have a lot of movies, video games, office accessories, furniture and sets for adults. Of course, I take advantage of all this. LEGO has become a certain addition to my colorful life. If the sets with Pokemon or Tom and Jerry were released, I would probably achieve full block happiness. Fortunately, anything is possible with the LEGO Ideas line. – Bartosz Stuła

My sets

I’ve had LEGO bricks for as long as I can remember – firefighters, knights and pirates rattled mixed up in the top drawer of the dresser. Building houses and vehicles stimulated the imagination and taught creative problem solving. If I did not have the perfect brick – I had to figure out how to use others to achieve the same effect.

The assembly of the first LEGO Technic set with steered wheels and a piston engine directed my interest towards technology. Differentials, pneumatics, electric motors – that’s what interested me. Currently, I professionally deal with similar issues and I can see that the fascination began with blocks.

I often spent the collected pocket money on blocks. I remember my excitement when I was buying a bigger set. Imagination raged and my own constructions became more and more complex. Then there were a few sets of Slizers, Bionicle,… and a longer break to relocate. I used to come back to building blocks during the summer holidays, trying to come up with something new every time.

LEGO came back when I was able to spend the money I had earned on my own. Currently, from time to time I will buy or wish myself a set to put on my desk. Unfortunately, I can spend less time assembling blocks – so most often I leave the original models that look very good.

Until it happened that in the brick shop, instead of the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star, I started to look at the large colorful men from Duplo sets. Of course not for myself. As a toy, they turned out to be perfect – we learned colors, numbers, played family scenes, built car washes and parking lots. Then I watched with joy as the first structures were created without my help.

I hesitated for a long time until I finally put a dot over and – I bought a Bugatti Chiron model. Something beautiful: independent suspension, four-wheel drive, gearbox – just a pleasure to assemble and admire. I consider this set to be the end of my journey with LEGO – the model has everything I wanted as a beginner builder. I can pass this passion on.

The long-awaited times have already come for me when I can buy ordinary bricks not for myself. And the best thing about LEGO is that it all fits together and we can put a Disney princess in my first spaceship to go on her own journey.
Pirates and Malysz?
Because I’ve always liked LEGO, that’s why my parents or grandparents gave me more sets on my birthday or Christmas. And as a person raised in the 90s, these were mainly bricks packages from the Pirates series. Probably everyone who grew up in the same period perfectly knows one-eyed and often one-legged people who sail on ships and fight with soldiers and natives. Plus sharks, crocodiles, parrots, treasure maps and golden goblets. There was a lot of it. My collection consisted mainly of smaller sets, but I couldn’t complain. It still made a fantastic naval battle. My favorite figurine, however, came from outside the series and it was a ghost that glows in the dark, which, whether you like it or not, must have haunted the seas and deserted islands.
Years later, the blocks ended up in the box and were used less and less. My little men, however, returned to favor in the twenty-first century. With the advent of “Małyszomania” they were renamed ski jumpers by me! They played the roles of Ahonen, Ammann, Schmitt, Hannawald, and the favorite of them was, of course, Małysz. With helmets on their heads, they jumped from the pillow straight to the measure borrowed from dad and won another championship. This is one of the many proofs that LEGO bricks can always be what we want and always guarantee great fun.
