Ahead of the ceremony, Kwan shared the news on Twitter:

I’ll probably take a break from social media for a while. The last thing I’m asking all fans of our film is to be gracious and kind tomorrow, especially if we don’t pick up the awards you may have felt we deserved. I love each of the films we face for different reasons, and more importantly, I love and appreciate the people behind each of these films more and more because I’ve met them this season. Just know that I already have everything I could ever want, and there’s no need to be bad on our behalf. Every film deserves to win, and I wholeheartedly support my nominated colleagues. Thank you for accompanying me on this crazy journey, your support means everything to me.

According to The New York Times, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert watched the Oscar nomination announcements with the film’s stars Yeoh and Quan in a video call, and they constantly celebrated as the film racked up its nominations.

It was so loud we could barely hear what anyone was saying. I was jumping up and down, screaming to the max, just like when I got the call from my agent that they wanted me for the role of Waymond… It’s so surreal.
