On the occasion of the release of the 1000th chapter of the popular manga, the creators created a survey to select the most popular 100 characters of the series.
The publisher of the manga Shueisha devoted a full-page color ad in The New York Times to the plebiscite . Voting for your favorite champion will last until February 28. By taking part in the poll, voters have a chance to win one of the gifts dedicated to the One Piece series.
Shueisha also released two commemorative videos to celebrate Chapter II’s anniversary to promote the survey campaign. Both films focus on the slogan “We Are One” (in many world polls, One Piece is rated as the number 1 manga).
In addition, the creator of Eiichiro Oda also published a letter celebrating the publication of his thousandth chapter.

Me, uh, wow … Words can’t whirl the last 23 years. Literally half of my life revolved around the all-powerful WEEKLY SERIALIZATION hehe. It’s like they say: “Pride comes before the fall.” I found that I shouldn’t fill too much because my readers would eventually leave the series and move on with their lives. Let me say that you all embarrassed me for thinking so. Your faith in Luffy made me believe in all of you and it allows me to continue drawing exactly the manga I want to draw. We are ready to lose ourselves in the next stages of the story. It took us a long time to get to a thousand chapters. I’ll bring this story to an end. This is not the end of surprises. This year’s third, fourth, and fifth and sixth linked issues of Weekly Shonen Jump will feature Luffy on the cover, which when put together will form one linked image. Shonen Jump manga artists including Kōhei Horikoshi , Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro , Boichi and Gege Akutami will draw their favorite One Piece characters to appear on the cover. Both editions will feature very large posters, the biggest ever to hit Weekly Shonen Jump .
