The Peter Pan series has been portrayed in many guises over the years since JM Barrie first introduced the character in 1902. The latest version was made in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean , with a clear emphasis on the mysticism of young and adults.
We may wonder why another version of Peter Pan is needed. This is an obvious question. The basic myth of Neverland and the “boy who wouldn’t grow up” has been told many times in the pages of books, stage and screen. We have even seen deconstructions of this history and biographies of its origins, adapted into acclaimed works – such as the 2004 Oscar-winning film, Finding Neverland . Peter Pan and Wendy director David Lowery had the same question. He even had moments of hesitation about making the film.
The weird thing about it is that when Disney approached me to direct this movie and asked if I’d be interested, I said I think it’s been done before. Do we need another Peter Pan ? But then I started thinking about what it meant to me and I just personally got into it, so all I can say is that I bring my own perspective to it. In doing so, I realized that it might be the most grown-up film I’ve ever made, in terms of the way it tackles themes, ironically about a child who won’t grow up. Peter Pan and Wendy features Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Together with his brothers and the tiny fairy Tinkerbell, he travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she meets the evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on an exciting and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.
The film stars Jude Law ( Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore ) as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony ( The Reluctant Landlord ) as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson ( Resident Evil: The Final Chapter ) as Wendy Darling, Yara Shahidi ( Grown-ish ) as Tinkerbell – with Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering ( A Discovery of Witches ), Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker ( House of Cards ), Alan Tudyk ( Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ) and Jim Gaffigan ( The Jim Gaffigan Show ) as Mr. Smee.
Peter Pan and Wendy was directed by David Lowery from a screenplay written by David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks ( The Green Knight ), based on the novel by J. M. Barrie and the animated film Peter Pan . The producer is Jim Whitaker ( Pete’s Dragon ) and the executive producers are Adam Borba ( A Wrinkle in Time ), Thomas M.
