Obese practitioner of confusion and chaos – review of the comic book “Garfield. Fat cat’s three-pack ”vol. 5

Garfield, America’s fat cat, is back at his best. The next volume of the series consists of many pages of great fun. The cat not only attacks the postman again, murders the pizza, but also blackmails Jon (seriously!).

Stories about Garfield amuse readers in every country. The fifth volume tells about the adventures of America’s favorite cat. What remains unchanged in the volume is related to the pet’s weight gain and its eating habits. Each part features heroes known from previous books: the owner of the cat – Jon, the absent-minded dog Odie, the bear Pooky, the sweetest cat in the world Nermal and the cat Arlene.

Garfield – Food for the Spirit : I’m a cloaked Avenger

In the first part of the volume, we learn about Garfield’s zodiac signs. Each of them has its own brief characteristics, for example RAK is “a sensitive homebody, appreciating a quiet family life [who] is not suitable for shining in the light of spotlights”. When we get to Jim Davis’ comic strip strips, we quickly notice that America’s fat cat is still struggling with its weight – both literally and figuratively. The electronic device does not stop and constantly signals the growing weight of the pet. Plus, what annoys Garfield the most is the fern and… Odie. In this part, the cat looks at him a bit more indulgently. He even engages him in his superhero plans. Garfield, as the cloaked avenger, must eventually have a mate, like Don Quixote his squire. At the end of the first part, a card with ten of the cat’s favorite jokes was additionally printed. The cat would laugh!

Garfield swallows his pride : I want to sleep, eat and so on endlessly

Not only Garfield and Odie live in Jon’s house. The cat often meets mice and rats who share various thoughts with him. However, he does not neutralize his little “friends”. Soon after, the fat animal meets “beloved” Arlene. Their relationship, however, has still not improved, and under the guise of sympathy there is cynicism and malice. Garfield also makes no secret of his feelings for Jon’s family members. When visiting the countryside, he spends some time with them, which, however, awakens him more than usual to sleep. The fountain in front of Jon’s house remains a favorite place for sunbathing, but the cat has to compete with the birds for this place. Most of the stripes in Part Two were devoted to when Garfield, Odie, and Jon got caught up in a window blind. Anyone who wanted to help them wrapped themselves in the cloth as well.

Wide Reach Garfield : I don’t like being bored

The vet is not empathetic towards Jon who teaches her. He calls him disgusting, insistent, bland, dull and boring, but this does not discourage the man from further striving for her feelings. In this part, Garfield celebrates Christmas. Friends decorate a Christmas tree at home, under which gifts appear soon after. The cat gets a warm sweater, most likely from Jon’s mom. In this part, Nermal, the sweetest cat in the world, plays on the nerves of the title character, but in such moments Garfield always has someone to hug. Pooky, a beloved plush toy, is waiting at the station. The funniest comic strips are related to Jon’s next date. A random phone call makes him make an appointment with a random onewoman. Berta, because that is the name of the potential lover, is similar to Jon’s ward – she likes to eat and sleep. I don’t think there will be any bread from this flour – one Garfield at home is enough!

No limits – we laugh!

Jim Davis doesn’t disappoint once again. His comic strips, collected in the fifth volume of Fat Cat Three Packs , will undoubtedly entertain all devoted fans of the fat pet. However, I assume that even people who have not expressed much interest in the series so far will find something for themselves in the book. And it will definitely be a lot of fun!
