Newest imaginarium – review of the comic book „Les Géants – Erin”, vol. 1

World in this comic seems exactly like ours – monotonous reality but with nice moments. Hero of first volume is named Erin. She’s the one who will introduce us to the world of Les Géants.

 

Greek mythology

Giants – Mimas, Pallas, Antheus, Alkyoneus and others … Heroes of Greek mythology , giants with serpent weaves instead of legs, distinguished by considerable height and incredible strength, repulsive. Recognized as personified forces of nature, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions. Although we see only a fragment of the body of the title giant on the cover, we can presume that in this way the authors encourage us, the readers, to look inside the volume. There – as we assume – we will see figures in all their glory. This is what it is. Giants are unique heroes whose appearance is reminiscent of combinations of several animals. In this volume we get to know only two representatives of this group, but probably more of them will appear in the next volumes. The giants will wake up.

Series about Giants!

I mentioned the next volumes for a reason. The initiated story is only an introduction to the plot planned by the authors. If we look at the back cover of the comic, we notice six children. In the discussed volume, we learn the story of the protagonist who is in the middle – it is Erin, a red-haired girl who is passionate about gardening. After her parents’ death, she lives in Scotland with her guardians and their son, Patrick. During one of her forest trips, the girl meets a fifteen-meter green Giant named Yrso. He has extraordinary skills: he can accelerate the growth of various types of plants, fruits and vegetables. In his spare time, he listens to birds singing and … plays hide and seek. It’s hard to imagine, huh? Kreacher has grown a bit, but also weighs his own – a trifle of ten tons. To the reader’s surprise, the heroes – Erin and Yrso – are in danger. A mysterious group of scientists is following their trail.

Comic in collaboration

The authors of the volume are Lylian (screenplay), Paul Drouin (drawings) and Aureyre Lorien (colors). The cooperation turned out to be a very good idea because the Giants can really like them! The story is short – just in time for one evening, but it attracts the reader who would most likely reach for the next volume immediately after reading it. The drawings have been prepared with the greatest care, and the colors are satisfying – the graphic possibilities of the creators have been exposed here and the frames should delight even the most demanding recipients. Importantly, another suggestion, Siegfried(premiere in March), was drawn by another graphic artist, which is worth paying attention to when reading two volumes. I was particularly delighted with the cover – the approximate Yrso’s hand / paw is drawn with a lot of detail, and Erin sitting on it seems to be extremely petite and vulnerable. I regret that the comic does not have a hard cover, but it does not affect its assessment.
