A lot has happened recently around the work of JRR Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series from Amazon Prime Video arouses more and more controversy on the web. As it turns out, other producers also had plans to adapt the history of Middle-earth.
Recently, The Hollywood Reporter arranged an interview with showrunners of The Rings of Power (Patrick McKay and JD Payne). Both admitted that Amazon was not the only company interested in Tolkien’s work.
Many streaming platforms wanted to repeat the success of Game of Thrones in this way . HBO wanted to make a serial remake of Peter Jackson’s cult trilogy, and Netflix had several productions planned with different heroes to expand the universe as Marvel does. One show was to be dedicated to Gandalf and the other to Aragorn. Even Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo became interested in advancing the story of Passepartout.
Ultimately, the rights went to Amazon, thanks to which the Rings of Power were created (shooting for the second season has already begun – more information at this link ). The series is available on Amazon Prime Video.
