(No) follow the jack-o’-lantern – Michelle Harrison’s book A Little Magic

The Supporting Sisters did not ask for another adventure, she just found it herself. The second volume on Fliss, Betty and Charlie takes us back to remote and dangerous regions, where only a little magic can help to solve the case of a wrongly convicted man.

Delighted with the first part about the Three Supporting Sisters, I did not hesitate a moment before reaching for the sequel. This time, however, I was encouraged not only by the fantastic setting of the novel, but also by a very good opinion after the reading that preceded it and the desire to learn about the further fate of the girls.

Adventure, adventure, a pity every moment

This time, the adventure goes literally to the very door of the young people together with an unexpected guest – a runaway named Error. The girl explains that she has to prove that her father was wrongly convicted of a murder that he did not commit (she and her mother also suffered the consequences of this sentence), because if he does not do so, he will be executed. In order to have a chance to save a man, he has to go to a very specific island, known for its tales and legends. Despite his initial hesitation, Betty, Fliss and Charlie decide to help the newcomer. Unfortunately, they are not able to do much, because as a result of an unfortunate mistake, at the very beginning of their new adventure, one of the sisters is kidnapped. So the rescue mission broadens its scope, and the Wspaczne themselves once again have to prove that they can cope with even the worst situations,

A grain of truth

By reading the second book from Michelle Harrison, I have already caught a certain repetition on which the writer based the plot. Once again, we get a legend-story discovered during our travels. There is also a poor, oppressed heroine who requires support and help from the Supporters. There is also a boy who does not fully act like an ally at first, but eventually becomes an ally. However, do not worry, even though some elements have been repeated, the plot itself draws you in and delights again. Harrison has the gift of creating a coherent, interesting and exciting story reminiscent of the fairy tales of Andersen or the Grimm brothers. The atmosphere here is constantly thick like a fog in a swamp, and subsequent events, although they do not herald an optimistic ending, lead to a fantastic finale, which perfectly closes the whole thing.

The family is not chosen…. Nevertheless, you can have great adventures with her

The main characters once again prove that the family is not only worth relying on, but also sometimes with its members can be opposed to the greatest dangers. Since each of the girls has its own carefully written and at the same time not exaggerated and very real character, each of the readers is able to choose their favorite Wspalna (although I warn you – it’s hard not to love them all), which they will be rooting for during the expedition. I like Betty a bit more myself, because her way of thinking is somewhat similar to mine.

Light in the tunnel… or on the boat or anywhere else

To say that A Little Magic is a good book is, in my opinion, a bit too little. It is a well-thought-out adventure, which is followed with unwavering interest from the first pages to the very finale, while cheering its participants on. Perfect for teenage fantasy fans.
