When creating Nightmares , Penco drew from the works of Lovecraft the atmosphere, nostalgia, claustrophobia, loneliness and mystery. His version of cosmic horror is like telling the story of an American writer with the help of drawings. At the same time, the Italian was able to create his own original world.
Penco’s drawings fit perfectly into the climate that inspired him. His works bring to mind the works of artists such as Gipi, Kentaro Miura, Thomas Ott and Bronisław Jamontt. Such a sad, nostalgic and gloomy beauty is not often found. You can check his style on a few sample boards below.
