Riverdale has arguably gotten even more creative in its final season, using its newly discovered 1950s setting to tell fascinating stories. While The CW’s hit series is currently on a short hiatus, the terrifying arrival of its final episodes is imminent – and a new trailer shows what the finale will entail.
The new Riverdale trailer , which you can check out below, shows off some of what fans can expect in the last few episodes. This includes heartfelt farewells, romance, and lots of glamour, among others.
Why is the final season of Riverdale set in the 1950s?
As Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told ComicBook.com earlier this year, the time jump allowed the show to uniquely return to the Archie Comics heyday of the 1950s.
Granted, although Archie started publishing much earlier than the 1950s, the decade most people associate with these comics is the 1950s for whatever reason. Archie’s comics are so nostalgic, and I think when people think of periods, they think of the 1950s. Through the lens of nostalgia. So that was one big reason, absolutely. And even when we made their iconic costumes from comic books from the past, although technically it was the 1940s, whenever someone wrote about it, they were like, “Oh my god, they’re wearing 1950s outfits.” So it was like, “Okay, well, that’s…” And even when we were presenting Riverdaleto try to make a TV show, management would say, “Wait a minute. Is this a series set in the 1950s?” And it’s like, “No, no, no, this is set in modern times.” So it was.

The other big thing that seemed to really resonate was the 1950s, when the modern idea of a teenager was born. Not really teenagers… Teenagers as we know them as consumers of popular culture, movies, TV, comics and stuff like that, really… The birth of the American, the modern American teenager, was also in the 1950s. So it felt like, “Oh, well, that Archie” and there is Archie. I felt that this is the period, actually this is the only period. So those were also elements that resonated with us and ultimately why we landed in that period. Also later…in the 60s, mixing with the counterculture, the civil rights movement, the gay liberation kind of movement, etc. And it seemed as far as our theme, which is a wholesome, sweet, innocent facade, and then a darker,

What is Riverdale season 7 about?
Season 7 of Riverdale takes place where no one else has dared go before – in the 50s! Continuing where the previous season left off, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) finds himself trapped in those years. It is unknown how he got there or how he will return to the present. His friends are no help as they live seemingly authentic lives similar to their classic Archie Comics counterparts, unaware that they have ever been anywhere but the 1950s.
