The first full-length Scooby-Doo films are around twenty years old. Although they have never delighted CGI or special effects, many Mystery Company fans have a great fondness for both productions, because they certainly remember them fondly from their childhood.
James Gunn ( Guardians of the Galaxy, Peacemaker, new Suicide Squad ) finally answered the nagging question of whether he would ever return to this project or recreate the third installment.
It started with a Tweet of @hzjoetv who wrote:
James Gunn should do “Scooby-Doo 3” and get the crew back together one last time.
The screenwriter surprised everyone by answering in this peculiar way:
I considered it. However, a Great Dane has a lifespan of around eight years, so I don’t know how to deal with it.

This humorous answer, in its own way, clearly suggests that we are unlikely to see a continuation. Nevertheless, in 2020, the screenwriter told about the interesting plot of the abandoned project:
The Secret Company is hired by a town in Scotland whose people complain of being tormented by monsters. Then it turns out that these creatures are actually victims, so Scooby and Shaggy have to work on the fact that they have prejudices and have a limited worldview. Yes, I am serious.
Although there is no chance for a new full-length film and the return of the actors known to many from childhood, there is a completely new adventure waiting for Scooby-Doo fans. An animation for adults called Velma from Mindy Kaling. It will most likely differ from the original – the first shared frame from the series shows the title character, bending over the body of a woman with a skull cut in half and the brain removed. More details about the upcoming series can be found here . Velma will soon make her debut on HBO Max.
