The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series , inspired by the Tolkien universe, will debut in September. Empire Magazine spoke to one of the showrunners, Patrick McKay, and shared footage of the Snow Troll and Harfoot, ancestors of the Second Age Hobbits.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power takes place a thousand years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings – Morgoth has been defeated, Numenor has not yet fallen, and Sauron is operating under the mask of a beautiful elf named Annatar.

Patrick McKay emphasized in an interview with Empire Magazine that the new production is not trying to compete with Peter Jackson’s cult films.
