On Sunday, Sony Pictures Animation unveiled a new promotional video for Spider-Man: Through the Multiverse , which features footage with Jessica Drew. She is voiced by Issa Rae from Insecure. The trailer tells the story of Gwen Stacy’s (Hailee Steinfeld) situation and her fight against several criminals. Gwen can’t help but ask if Jessica will adopt her. You can check out the video below!
Rae isn’t the only new star joining the Spider-Verse franchise. Oscar Isaac appeared in a brief end credits scene as Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O’Hara. Now he will be one of the main characters. The cast also includes returning stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld and Jake Johnson, as well as newcomers Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni and Jorma Taccone.
Spider-Verse short film on the way
In addition to the second Spider-Verse film, there is also a short film in the pipeline, which was produced as part of Sony’s LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) program. The new installment is titled The Spider Within . LENS creators Michelle Raimo Kouyate and David Schulenburg are overseeing the project.
We feel honored and privileged to have been given the opportunity to give shape to the inaugural launch of the LENS programme. We are incredibly proud that the hard work of all four filmmakers – Jarelle Dampier, Khaila Amazan, Clara Chan and Joe Darko – has paid off. They exceeded all expectations by taking on the roles of leaders and creating an extraordinary short film. We are so grateful to be part of a studio that is doing significant work to give a voice to the various groups and studio executives – Kristine Belson, Michelle Grady, Pam Marsden and Paul Martin – who started this program and have supported us every step of the way.
Kouyate and Schulenburg wrote in a statement
