The new edition of The Text – the first realistic novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, author of such bestsellers as Metro 2033 and Futu.re, is now available in bookstores. This time in a completely different, fresh graphic design.
Ilya is released from prison. Eight years spent behind bars deprived him of the most beautiful period of his youth. It ruined his life. His friends had arranged their lives long ago, and he was serving a sentence for illegal drug possession – an unfair punishment: a clumsy bag of white powder was tossed to him in an act of revenge by a policeman during a drug raid at one of Moscow’s discos. Court, prison. Ilya lost to the machine of the Russian justice system. Eight of the best years of life. Irretrievably lost. By a policeman, Piotr Chazin, who at that time was enjoying his life and basking in luxury – like most of the corrupt officers in the anti-narcotics department.
But the time for revenge is coming. After leaving prison, Ilya acquires Chazin’s iPhone and learns its darkest secrets. Because every smartphone is a backup of someone’s life, a backup of someone’s soul. Anyone who unlocks it can learn all about its owner. More: it can become one. Not literally. Outwardly for those who will contact him. Texts, messages, photos, e-mails – it’s so easy to become someone else, you only need to have his phone.
The above description is provided by the publisher.
The text , however, is not only a story about the old and well-known theme of revenge or the opportunities that new technology creates for today’s people. It is a presentation of the clash of generations, unjust punishment and unhappy love. It is also a story about a man who loses himself in his search for justice and undergoes a transformation. The question is, will she lose Ilya or bring him compensation?
If you have not had the opportunity to learn about this story yet or would like to recall it, on May 5 a new edition of the book appeared in bookstores. Thanks to the Insignis publishing house, Glukhovsky’s text was given a film cover.
The story presented in it is an example of prose in which the atmosphere is dark and at times overwhelming, and the genre frames are fluid, thanks to which the reader gets a literary mix – thriller, crime fiction, drama and noir.
No wonder that after its first appearance in bookstores, it attracted enough interest to Russian filmmakers that in 2019 Tekst was released in theaters with a star cast. And it is from this film – appreciated by the audience as positively as the original book – that the cover of the latest issue comes from.
Dmitry Glukhovsky has not yet disappointed his readers with his previous novels, so do not hesitate and grab the Text now. Take a look here to get your own copy at a favorable price.
