New details for the series about Middle-earth have been revealed!

Amazon Prime Video has officially revealed the title of its upcoming Middle-earth TV series. It’s supposed to be The Rings of Power . The announcement video features the voice of the narrator reciting the first few lines of the Verse of the Ring , a poem about the One Ring that describes its nature and relationship with the other Rings and their master Sauron.

We have known for a long time that the action of the series from Prime Video will take place long before the events of The  Hobbit and Lord of the Rings . It seems to focus on how the Rings were created and distributed in Middle-earth, including other stories from the Second Age.

“This is a title we imagine it could live on the spine of the book alongside other JRR Tolkien classics. The Rings of Power unite all the major stories of the Second Middle-earth: forging the rings, the rise of darkness and Sauron, the stories of Numenor and the Last Alliance of Elves and Humans, “showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay said in a press release. “Until now, viewers only saw the story of The One Ring on screen – but before there was one, there were many … and we’re excited to share an epic story about them all.”

During the Second Age of Middle-earth, Sauron sought to corrupt the Elves by pretending to be Annatar, Lord of the Gifts, and teaching some elven smiths to forge the Rings. The elves forged 19 rings: 16 with the help of Sauron and 3 without. Meanwhile, Sauron traveled to Mount Doom and secretly forged the One Ring, hoping to bind the Elves to its power. However, the elves carrying the Three sensed the instant Sauron put on his One Ring. They hid their rings and refused to use them. Meanwhile, Sauron had amassed his forces and waged war against the elves, eventually regaining some of the Rings and distributing them to the Dwarven and Human Lords as appropriate. The corruption of the people eventually led to the fall of Númenor. Sauron’s attempt to conquer Middle-earth continued, until Isildur severed his Ring during the Last Elven Alliance and the human siege of Barad-dûr. This event marked the beginning of the Third Age of Middle-earth and set the stage for The Lord of the Rings.
