New demons, new killers of demons – review of the manga “Sword of the demon killer” vol. 3-5

Fighting scenes

The next manga volumes abound with combat scenes. A large part of them, of course, are duels with demons. However, there are also shorter skirmishes with people outside of them. Undoubtedly, readers who enjoy the skirmishes will be pleased. Battle struggles fill a significant part of these comics. Unfortunately, there is not enough space for other elements.

In addition to Tanjiro, more demon killers appear. They are both the protagonist’s peers and older colleagues. Everything indicates that the former will accompany the main character for a long time. One of them – Inosuke is always eager to fight. On the other hand, the second – Zenitsu is rather not eager to fight.

Different powers

The demons faced by the heroes have different powers. This is important as it makes the manga more interesting. After all, it would be too boring to constantly repeat one theme. By far the most fascinating skill appears in the third volume. Unfortunately, this part of the story was told very briefly. It is a pity because both the technique itself and the character using it could catch the reader’s attention for longer. Another opponent got a lot more “airtime”. Undoubtedly, some people will like its story. It breaks through some of the patterns seen earlier. However, in my opinion, it is less interesting than the chapters that precede it.

The attacks used by the positive heroes are slightly less diverse. It is true that Tanjiro himself uses several techniques to fight, but the differences between them are not that spectacular. On the other hand, there are characters that act in a more interesting way, which gives hope that the Demon Slayers will attack in a more interesting way later on – but all of this will turn out to be true.

Kindness at every turn

Constant fights are not very conducive to building the story and personality of the character. However, Koyoharu Gotouge manages to give us some information about them. What is most noticeable is the kindness of the main character. Despite the profession he began to work, he did not lose the deep compassion that he also bestows on his opponents. It is difficult to find great depth here. Tanjiro’s approach most closely resembles simple folk known from many fairy tales. Like them, the hero simply has a heart in his hand.

As for the other characters, their past is only just beginning to emerge in the manga, and the character is reduced to single features. It is worth adding that sometimes they are depicted in a caricatured way. This is conducive to a relaxed atmosphere, and although it is not an overly ambitious sense of humor, it does bring a smile to your face. At the end of each volume, there are mini-extras that are designed to make the reader laugh. Although they are a nice complement, it is difficult to admire them.

Insufficiency

Unfortunately, after the fifth installment of the story is completed, there is a certain lack of satisfaction. The Demon Slayer Sword is not a bad manga, but unfortunately it does not impress the viewer. While after the first volumes, the atmosphere of the story compensated for some shortcomings in the story, here it is no longer enough. Despite this, the manga is quick to read and quite enjoyable.
