The film boasts a voice cast that includes Chloe Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed. Nimona was initially greenlit to be produced by Blue Sky, but was canceled when the studio closed. Netflix then picked up the film in 2022, and fans can’t wait to see its unique formula and animation style.
Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain bent on revenge. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: to prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his cronies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics are not the heroes everyone thinks they are. But when minor mischief escalates into a brutal battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as dark and mysterious as her past, and that her unpredictable, wild side may be more dangerous than he thought.
For those unfamiliar with Nimona, the title began as Stevenson’s webcomic, even served as his thesis in art school, and was eventually compiled into a graphic novel in 2015.
Nimona will debut on Netflix on June 30.
