During a recent Netflix presentation, Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series Brandon Riegg revealed that the 10-episode reality show will premiere in November. Netflix officially ordered the series last June, touting a life-changing prize of $4.56 million – the largest cast and lump sum prize money in reality TV history.
Our most ambitious competition series in history will also debut later this year. Squid Game: The Challenge has 456 real players competing for $4.56 million – the largest lump sum prize money in television history.
Riegg said during the presentation.
Netflix describes a series of competitions:
Players will be tested in a series of games inspired by the series, as well as some surprising new additions that will push them to the limit. Strategy, alliances and character are key to surviving the tension. The stakes are high, but luckily in this game, the worst fate for anyone is to come home empty-handed.
Squid Game has taken the world by storm with its captivating story and iconic images from director Hwang (Dong-hyuk). We are grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment.
The cast includes Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-jun, Oh Young-soo, Jung Ho-yeon, Heo Sung-tae, Kim Joo-ryoung, Tripathi Anupam, and You Seong-joo. In You-mi, hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits – with deadly high stakes. Along with The Challenge , Netflix announced last year that Squid Game season 2 is officially in development and is scheduled for release in late 2024.
