Netflix adds ‘Gorillaz’ to lineup of canceled shows.

The creators of the cartoon band  Gorillaz had big plans to create a big feature film with members of a fictional band. Work on the project was already underway, but unfortunately, as a result of Netflix’s decision, the project was rejected by the platform. The premiere of the film is therefore questionable.

It seems that Netflix is making further moves in terms of animated productions behind the scenes. After the cancellation of  Inside Job and  Dead End: Paranormal Park,  the streaming service came under fire for its approach to animation. The negative comments seem to be right, because now we’ve learned more about the full-length Gorillaz  , and it looks like it won’t be released either.

The news comes directly from the creators of the band Gorillaz – Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Albarn mentioned the project being put on hold in an interview with the Belgian tabloid HUMO .

The new record came about because Jamie and I were in Los Angeles a lot. We were working on a Gorillaz feature film  that would never happen. I’m not going to name names because the whole thing is still pending: the streaming platform we were making the movie for has pulled out. They panicked because they were creating too much content at once and decided to limit their film offer. Plus, in line with decades-old Hollywood practice, the guy we worked with moved to another company.

the band’s frontman said.

Gorillaz’s plans  for its own feature-length film have stalled. However, this does not mean that all is lost. Another platform could take over the project, and there are many companies investing in animated cinematography. On the other hand, it turns out that the biggest services like Netflix and even Warner Bros. Discovery takes a rather conservative approach to animation, which can make it difficult for eccentric ‘gorillas’ to find their place in on-screen entertainment.
