The X-Men are having a lot of internal problems again. However, this is still nothing compared to what the inhabitants of Breakworld are preparing for the Earth. In the face of extinction, the mutants will manage to gather a team and save humanity?
No problems without mutation
Professor Charles Xavier is missing, and Cyclops took over command of the school and the X-Men team. At least officially. Emma Frost has more than Scott to say, and Wolverine, as usual, is not going to listen to anyone. Meanwhile, the government has developed new vaccines to reverse the mutation and make all citizens “normal people.” Some consider it an attack on their freedom, others, including the Beast, consider the possibility of returning to a life in which they do not have to be afraid or ashamed to go out on the streets. As it turns out, behind everything is a certain Ord, a newcomer from the Breakworld planet. According to the prophecy, his planet is about to be destroyed by one of the X-Men. So he tries to prevent a catastrophe. And by the way, together with his leader, he is planning an attack on our planet. Although SWORD comes with help, and at the last moment also such heroes, like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange or the Fantastic Four, the fate of our planet will be in the hands of Kitty Pryde. The task will not be easy and the mutant will have to make a huge sacrifice. Will she be ready for them?
From X-Men to Avengers
For writing Astonishing X-Men corresponds to Joss Whedon, the man who directed, among Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron . Looking chronologically at his achievements, however, mutants have priority here. Their adventures were originally released in 2007, while the films had their premieres in 2012 and 2015. Thanks to the Mucha Comics publishing house, from 2018 we can read the adventures of the X-Men also in the Polish edition. And it’s definitely worth doing.Let’s start with the series having an Eisner Award for Best Continued Comic Series. Personally, I am not surprised by the jurors. And I am writing this not only as a fan of mutants. Astonishing X-Menit’s a really amazing comic. It presents a great adventure in which almost all the most important X-Men participate. The relations between the characters are perfectly captured – friendship, love, antipathy, and even hostility towards each other. Emma Frost definitely stands out here, she is plotting something all the time, pretending and it is not entirely clear which side she is on. The plot of Cyclops, who has just become the new leader of the team, is also interesting and is not quite coping with this role, but he is trying his best. The creators did not forget about the hot feeling between Kitty Pryde and Colossus, which almost emanates from the pages of notebooks. For all this, we also have Henry McCoy with whom a real beast comes out at times and the irreplaceable Wolverine, who cuts, shreds and kills new enemies, but it also brings a lot of humor to the comic. We also meet a new member of the group, Hisako Ichiki, aka Armor, who makes an excellent duo with Logan. However, the title is not only based on the heroes, but also on their opponents. The inhabitants of the mentioned Breakworld are extraordinary warriors, they are thirsty for blood and take no prisoners. Their plan to destroy Earth is well thought out and hard to stop. However, the final twist and an explanation of who is behind everything is a real masterpiece, through which you can only shake your head in disbelief and remove the hat in front of the originator. they are bloodthirsty and take no prisoners. The foreground counts
Astonishing X-Men, like every comic, it is not only scripts and dialogues, but also drawings. John Cassaday, a cartoonist who has collaborated with both DC Comics and Marvel, is responsible for them. In this position, the illustrator showed what he is famous for, which is focusing primarily on the main characters. If you like to see details in the background, don’t count on it here. It cannot be said that there is a white wall behind the characters, but in most cases they are only fragments of houses, buildings, forests, spaceships or the sky. The illustrator perfectly shows us the mutants themselves and their opponents. During their conversations, we mainly look at faces. During the fights, the main character is in the center, and his enemies only act as the background. As strange as it sounds and for some it may even be boring, don’t worry. The effect is really great. It is thanks to these treatments that you can see real emotions and relationships between the characters. The fights also look dynamic, and the reader is more eager to cheer on his favorite. For example, Wolverine attacking several Breakworld residents looks really cossack when it stabs them with its claws. Cassaday is able to capture all his anger, and the blood flying around only strengthens the effects. Such illustrations make you want to watch. We love these X-Men
Astonishing X-Men is one of the best Marvel comics that has been released in the last dozen years. It presents a very high level. The script created by Whedon, full of twists, emotions and even thought-provoking is a real diamond. Cassaday’s great artwork is eye-catching and helps you understand this intricate world full of betrayals and lies. The Polish edition also deserves praise. The publisher, Mucha Comics, took care of the hard covers, a few explanations referring to the X-Men’s past, and translations of English words that, if thrown directly into the dialogues, would make the text meaningless and no longer funny. The whole adventure was placed in two volumes, thanks to which we also received an attachment in the form of covers of the original notebooks. The efforts of authors and publishers made
