The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba – two witches who would later become the iconic Good Witch of the South and Wicked Witch of the West . Today, Chu released a social media post to reveal a first look at Grande and Erivo in the aforementioned roles.

In addition to Grande and Erivo, the new musical Wicked will star Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, Aaron Teoh as Avaric, Colin Michael Carmichael as Professor Nikidik, Michelle Yeoh – Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as a wizard.
Wicked: Part One will appear in cinemas on Thanksgiving 2024. Initially, the premiere was announced for December 25, but it will finally take place almost a month earlier – November 27. Last year, Chu announced that the film would be released in two parts.
Here’s what happened – when we’ve been prepping the production for the last year, it became impossible to tell the story of Wicked in one movie without spoiling it. When we tried to cut songs or remove some characters, these decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that had entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves more room to act and make not just one film, but two! With more space, we can tell the story the way it was meant to be told, while adding even more depth.
