A family tragedy
The twins Alex and Conner Bailey met a real tragedy, their father died in an accident. Although our heroes are very brave kids, this event left a permanent mark on them. Anyway, there is nothing to be surprised. The new reality forces their mother to stay at work for extra shifts to somehow make ends meet. Alex and Conner therefore spend most of their free time in their own company. As befits fraternal twins, a boy and a girl differ from each other like fire and water in character. She, an exemplary student (I have a feeling for Hermione here) and he, absolutely uninterested in science and at times a bit too insolent kid.
An unusual grandmother
The Bailey love their grandmother’s visits from their dad’s side. A woman always brings unusual souvenirs from places she has recently visited. By the way, he tells them amazing stories every time. This time, as a gift for her twelfth birthday, the woman gives her grandchildren a book of fairy tales, which seems to have been in their family forever. It is she who becomes the door to the world full of miracles and magic, the Land of Stories. I guess I’m not the only one who can’t get rid of the association with The Endless Story ?
Magical world
The very idea of the Land of Stories appealed to me very much. The division into kingdoms according to the most famous fairy tales is a bull’s eye! Our heroes must visit each of them to collect the ingredients needed for a spell that will bring them back home. Obtaining magical artifacts is not easy in itself, and the fact that the Hunter’s daughter, acting on behalf of Cinderella’s stepmother, is stepping on the twins’ heels only adds spice to the story.
The cinematic nature of the narrative
The general message of this book is that you need to know all versions of events before you judge them. I must admit that although Chris Colfer’s book is by no means original (especially now that retellings are in vogue), it is very enjoyable to read! Thanks to the author’s narrative, I felt more like watching a Disney production rather than reading a book for teenagers. I liked all the protagonists, but also the antagonists. You can see that the Land of Stories. The Wish Spell was written by the actor, that’s what.
Summary
I really appreciate light and pleasant youth clubs. The magical land created by the star Glee charmed me and I will definitely come back to it in the next installments of the series. In addition to the interesting plot, the warmth accompanying the tales of fairy tales and pleasant plot twists, the setting also appeals to me. A beautiful cover, properly selected print and illustrations at the beginning of each chapter are the icing on the cake that will tempt many book-alcoholics. I wish there were more such books!
