Favorite heroes face each other in one final bloody battle that pushes them to the limit! The movie Mortal Kombat , inspired by the hit, brutal series of video games, will debut on 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY, BLU-RAY and DVD on September 1.
Mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young is used to being hit for money. He has no idea of his origins, however, and does not know why the ruler of the Underworld, Shang Tsung, sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, a cryomancer from another dimension upon him. Fearing for the safety of the family, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade, recommended to him by Jax. This special forces major has the same strange dragon-shaped birthmark that Cole was born with. Young soon finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, one of the Elder Gods and protector of Earth, providing shelter to those who bear the Dragon Birthmark. At the temple, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang and Kung Lao, and the rebellious mercenary Kano. Together, the greatest masters of Earth will fight against opponents from the Underworld, in which the universe is at stake.
The film is the feature debut of Simon McQuoid, Australian award-winning advertising director. McQuoid made a movie based on a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham ( Wonder Woman 1984 ) and an idea by Oren Uziel ( Mortal Kombat: Rebirth ) and Russo, who both relied on a video game by Ed Boon and John Tobias.
By bringing the story to the screen, we wanted to both stay true to the source material and please our devoted fans, but also create an exciting experience for movie-goers unfamiliar with the game. We wanted to give everyone a really fun, relentless ride and let viewers get to know these amazing characters and the powerful energy of Mortal Kombat , says the director of the film.
The production starred film and television actors and martial artists such as Lewis Tan ( Deadpool 2 ) as Cole Young; Jessica McNamee ( Meg ) as Sonya Blade; Josh Lawson ( Hot Topic ) as Kano; Tadanobu Asano ( Midway ) as Lord Raiden; Mehcad Brooks ( Supergirl ) as Jackson “Jax” Bridges; Ludi Lin ( Aquaman ) as Liu Kang; Chin Han ( Skyscraper ) as Shang Tsung; Joe Taslim ( Star Trek: Into the Unknown ) double as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero and Hiroyuki Sanada (Skyscraper) as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpio.
The movie is brutal, full of action and intense fights. We wink to fans, but viewers unfamiliar with Mortal Kombat games can also fully enjoy on-screen characters – Kano is hilarious, Sub-Zero is ruthless, Jax is great, Sonya is powerful, and Cole will act as your guide through this crazy, awesome and an exciting world, says Simon McQuoid.
An exciting adaptation of the series loved by millions of players, full of bloody and spectacular combat scenes, will be released on the Polish market on September 1.
