One of the producers behind the upcoming sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film has confirmed when shooting for the next installment will begin. Last summer, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 is in the works and will once again be directed by director Simon McQuoid. While details on the film’s release date are still very scarce, now at least we know how long production should last.

In a recent statement on social media, producer Todd Garner confirmed a recent report that shooting for the film will begin in two months, in June 2023. Shooting is expected to last until September 2023 and will once again take place in Australia, where the previous part was shot. Other than this extensive information, Garner hasn’t said anything else about  Mortal Kombat 2 , which means fans are still guessing as to what the sequel’s plot might be centered around.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to follow in  Mortal Kombat 2  will be how it will be released. As a result of the 2021 pandemic, Mortal Kombat launched directly on HBO Max, which led to the film garnering a large number of views. This early success apparently lit a green light towards a sequel for Warner Bros. pictures . However, Mortal Kombat 2  will most likely not be released the same way, meaning it will need to perform much better at the box office to ensure that future films in the series continue to emerge.

As of this writing,  Mortal Kombat 2  still has no release date. Given that filming will end in early fall,  MK2 appears to be on track to hit theaters in the first half of 2024.
