Ancient evil on the attack
Doom Slayer will probably never be able to hang up his old guns. He has just washed away the warm juice of the Icon of Sin, and he will again fight the hordes of hellish spawn. It turned out that the destruction of the ancient Khan Maykr disturbed the balance between the dimensions, and humanity is once again threatened with extinction. We have to find a certain Seraph, whose help is essential in eliminating the new threat.
The plot continues the story known from Doom Eternal
As you might expect, this is the same, extremely dynamic shooter in which it is necessary to take advantage of the weaknesses of enemies and thoughtful management of rapidly depleting resources, as well as constant juggling of weapons and constant movement on the battlefield. Of course, there were some changes and novelties. From the very beginning, we have unlocked all character and weapon upgrades, but in return, the creators raise the bar a bit, testing our skills even more.
Already in the basic version of the game, even the normal difficulty level took its toll on many players, and here the crazy pace of the game, strength and number of enemies – sometimes even overwhelming – were noticeably increased. The battles are therefore very intense and demanding, and at the same time invariably absorbing and satisfying, and the battle with the final boss is a real ride without a grip.

A light breeze of freshness
There are basically not many news. There are new enemies in the form of Turrets, Wraiths and Bloody Maykr. By default, each of them has a weak point, but also unique abilities, making them annoying and difficult to kill. Especially the aforementioned Specter, possessing other demons, thus significantly increasing their combat potential. In addition, you can count on new challenges and cleverly hidden secrets. This slight breeze of freshness, together with the greater intensity of the clashes, was enough to let me be carried away again by the unrestrained massacre of demons. After all, we’re talking about expanding into one of the best FPSs of the last decade, so you don’t need much to be happy.
The whole thing was divided into three extensive missions, the completion of which took me about 5 hours in total, but I skipped some of the collectibles and did not play on the highest difficulty level. The locations differ significantly in design – spreading terror among all sorts of filth, we will visit the UAC Atlantic Center, the Bloody Swamp (in my opinion the most atmospheric stage) and the Gaj, which enjoys the eye with surreal views. Graphically and musically, the high level of the original was maintained, although the lack of new compositions by Mick Gordon, in conflict with the developers, leaves a certain insufficiency.

Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part One is a kind of tribute to fans who will feel at home by launching this expansion. It’s a few hours more of the same, sweet fun, with a few variety that adds spice to it. The only downside that comes to my mind is the relatively high level of difficulty, which may turn out to be an insurmountable barrier for casual players. Meanwhile, I am waiting impatiently for the second part.
