Summer with Moomins
Who among us doesn’t know Moomins from Tove Jansson? Whether in the book version or in the form of a bedtime story on TV, this lovely family and friends have been popular for many years and have already gathered a large group of fans around the world. The philosophizing Moomin Daddy, the beloved Moomin Mummy, the adventurous young Moomin, the girlish Snorkel or the saucy Little Mi and the Thinker Włóczykij are just a few of the heroes of this extraordinary series for children and teenagers. Their adventures are worth getting to know at any age, because everyone will find something for themselves in them.
Egmont Publishing House decided to extend the literary adventure with these extraordinary creatures and to publish in the last days two books combining characters from the Moomin Valley with a whole lot of activities for the youngest. Moomin book and the sea. Search and find illustrated by Päivi Arenius tells the story of how Ryjek, Little Mi and the title family of white trolls set off on a boat trip to a friend of the lighthouse keeper. Along the way, they have a few adventures (escaping pirates, meeting sea horses, fishing, diving, etc.), but of course everything ends happily.
I am asking for such books for adults!
The new Egmont publication is ideally suited to the needs of the youngest readers. A4 format, hard cover and pages, beautiful colors – it all literally impresses. Holding it in my hands, I regret that in my childhood there was no such book (on the other hand, now I have the opportunity to console myself with it with my child). On each page there are a few sentences of the main story, interwoven from time to time with questions about the characters’ behavior. Additionally, the standard task is to find a list of specific items in each picture. It is not a very complicated task, because the illustrations are large, so I estimate that they will calmly be suitable as an activity for a few years old child. In addition to searching, in some places there are labyrinths to find the right route with your finger, or similar drawings to indicate the differences between them. There are counting, shapes and color tasks in the book as well, so it will definitely be fun to do. If the kids want to check if they have done the exercises properly, the answer key is provided at the end.
This is the sea, this is a boat, this is a beach, and this is …
Among parents, a well-known series for learning to speak are books about a boy named Pucio. When I got acquainted with the Moomins, I remembered about them, because in this form the Moomins are also great as materials for learning or consolidating new words with a child. Overall, this publication gives parents a lot of scope to show off different objects and tell them what they are. You do not have to feel limited by the history framework here, because, as I have already mentioned, the large format and nice, clear illustrations are very legible.
