The upcoming X-Men ’97 animated series may be one of the most ambitious projects from Marvel Studios . In fact, it will be a sequel to the 90s classic X-Men: The Animated Series. Not only will the series finally return this year, but it will bring back its entire voice cast as well as some noteworthy villains. Speaking during a recent X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years stream, series writer Beau DeMayo announced that Mister Sinister will be tormenting mutants again. Christopher Britton will once again voice the villain in the series, having previously appeared as a character in several episodes of the original series.
The very, very, very, very much loved character of mine and many others, Mister Sinister, will raise his ugly head from the past with a rather foolproof plan to destroy the X-Men once and for all.
DeMayo said
Storm and Wolverine try to keep the X-Men going. Magneto enters and wants to replace Charles Xavier. Sinister steps in to try to end the X-Men once and for all.
– we read in the official summary
Confirmed X-Men ’97 cast members include Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Chris Potter as Gambit, Catherine Disher as Jean Grey/Phoenix and Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler). Other favorite X-Men characters confirmed to appear in the series include Cable, Bishop, Sunspot, Morph and Forge.
As an animated series, the original X-Men was the precursor to some amazing action series. Everyone who makes X-Men ’97 , from top to bottom, is a fan of him. In this project, we instinctively knew exactly what it was. To push this series forward and take the baton, and not just run upwards at the same pace, but really go up. That’s the responsibility.
said Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Vice President of Animation at Marvel Studios.
DeMayo is the head writer and executive producer of X-Men ’97 . Jake Castorena joined as supervising director and Charley Feldman is supervising producer. Original X-Men: The Animated Series producers and showrunners Eric and Julia Lewald and director Larry Houston will be consulting on the new series.
X-Men ’97 will be available exclusively on Disney+ in fall 2023.
