He was the impersonator of this cult role in the first three films by George Lucas. He was offered to play Chewbakka or Darth Vader. No wonder he chose the latter. However, it’s not his voice we hear in the movies, but actor James Earl Jones.
George Lucas was casting and heard positive feedback about my work at A Clockwork Orange and asked me to come, which of course I did, even though no one knew what the movie was about!
The actor was born on July 1, 1935 in Bristol. Despite childhood osteoarthritis, he successfully competed in weightlifting competitions. He was over 2 meters tall, so he began his adventure with acting as … Frankenstein’s monster in Casino Royale from 1967. He reappeared this role in the films: Frankenstein’s Horror and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell . He also appeared in A Clockwork Orange and a guest star in Doctor Who (1963-1989) as the Minotaur.
He was also a children’s superhero known as the Green Cross Code Man. In this role, he taught how to properly cross the street.
But I have to say that the job I’m most proud of is Green Cross Code Man.
He was best known for the three Star Wars games. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983).
Unfortunately, he was so conflicted with George Lucas that he was banned from attending any events organized by Lucasfilm. Already on the set there was a quarrel between them. And since we’ve never seen the actor’s face in the movies, it was easy to replace.
He talked about his role as follows:
However, I do remember smiling a little inside because I knew it wouldn’t be seen in the video – so of course when the poor planet is blown up I smile and laugh like crazy!
