Madison (Annabelle Wallis) begins to experience macabre visions one day. During sudden attacks of paralysis, a woman sees a mysterious figure commit cruel murders. The real drama, however, begins only when it turns out that all the killings really happened.
After many years, I felt it was time to go back to basics, to stronger horrors such as “Saw” and “Death Sentence”. I felt like I needed to try something different again. It was very important for me to do something original and bold. “The Incarnation” is inspired by the movies that I loved as a child. It’s a return to ’80s and early’ 90s horror movies like those created by the great masters of horror: Dario Argento, Wes Craven, David Cronenberg. Who knows when I will have the opportunity to try something like this again? – says James Wan, the director of the film.
Malignant refers to the popular, mainly in the seventies and eighties, trend in Italian horror cinema – giallo. This term was used to describe bloody crime fiction, partly modeled on cheap thriller novels. Black gloves worn by the murderer are a common hallmark of giallo.
The first picture from the video I posted was a gloved hand holding a gun – I winked at horror fans who know what the giallo genre is This picture was my way of saying that I was going back to the kind of horror movies with which I started my career. I made this video for hardcore horror fans! – emphasizes Wan.
The film referring to the cult horror films of the 80s and 90s was warmly received by viewers and critics.
The key to creating a good horror movie is to present the story in a fresh and unique way. This is what I tried to do with “Malignant” – to lull the viewers’ vigilance with a known pattern, and then hit them with something strange, unique, crazy and wonderful! – adds the director.
