Magic full of secrets – review of the comic book “Aristophania. The Kingdom of Azure “, vol. 1

The first volume of Aristophania has appeared on our market by Taurus Media , intended to be a prelude to a larger fantasy story. Does this album encourage you to reach for the next parts?

Untold entertainment

The beginning of the story, written by Xavier Dorison, leaves many threads open, without developing any. Does it bother me? Absolutely not, because the very aura of mystery and the use of statements that the reader cannot understand at this stage of the story attracts us more and more. We want to find out what the mission entrusted to the father of the main characters is, what we are dealing with in terms of power and finally who the title Aristophania really is.

Despite so many secrets, the action takes place quickly and dynamically, without leaving us in a lethargic mood. The characters of the characters are clearly outlined, we know from the very beginning how one of the three children will react in a stressful moment. This, of course, shows very well how complex and planned their characters are.

Marseille at the beginning of the 20th century

Joël Parnotte is perfect for the architecture of cities characteristic of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. You can feel a French city, still struggling with a huge class difference and feeling the effects of the end of the Paris Commune. When it comes to colors – there are moments when, due to the multitude of panels on one side, many images merge into one. It does not bother the general reception that much, but I think that a larger palette of colors could liven up this comic a bit. This is my only complaint, because Parnotte renders the characters and accompanying emotions with true perfection.

Great fantasy for teenagers

Aristophania, published in hardcover, captivates with its mature approach to the young reader, not trying to sweeten any threads, but presenting everything in a real (for a fantasy) shot. If you are looking for good candidates for a youth story full of magic and mystery, then the album by Parnotte and Dorison should definitely be on your comic book shelf.
