There is no doubt that Taika Waititi has introduced Marvel Studios films to a whole new world. His Thor: Ragnarok (2017) surprised fans all over the world and with his light character, it kind of gave us a break from the emotions brought by Avengers: War Without Borders (2018). Colorful sets, sometimes absurd humor and bold breaking patterns turned out to be in perfect harmony with scenes such as the death of a character or serious, fraternal conversations between Thor and Loki. Ragnarok and his director brought a breath of fresh air to the MCU, opening them even more to interactions with fans and backstage activity.
Of course, it was no surprise that Marvel Studios decided to continue working with the Australian director. The excitement that fans welcomed the news of his return to work on Thor: Love and Thunder only confirms that Waititi has completely won their hearts. And although the photos of the production will not start until January 2021 , we have already learned the working title of the film. And … well, let him speak for himself:
We all remember the touching scene in Avengers: Endgame (2020) where Thor reunites with his mother in the past. The protagonist opens his heart to her, talks about failures and how a small child waits for her parenting. As she and Rocket are about to return to their spacetime lineage, Frigga adds one more heartfelt motherly advice:
And eat a salad…
Thor has come one of the most intense paths in character development over the years. We met him as a reckless prince, from whom he became a mature warrior, then a responsible ruler. He had to face the death of all his loved ones (some of them even several times, we look at you Loki), the loss of home, subjects, and finally End of the Game with depression and the devastating feelings of guilt and failure. The last time we saw him, he relinquished the throne of Asgard and decided to go on adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy ( whom we will also see in an upcoming movie ). Perhaps The Big Salad is another transformation our hero is about to undergo? Or is it just another joke from Waititi?
Fans and some foreign websites have also noticed that the title is identical to an episode of Seinfeld’s Chronicles , an American sitcom from the nineties. Its plot is really interesting and, above all, funny and chaotic, leading to unexpected and completely absurd situations. If this is the kind of dynamics we can expect from the next Thor , there is no doubt that there is much to wait for.
Thor: Love and Thunder will begin shooting in January 2021. Its premiere is scheduled for January 11, 2022, three weeks before The Batman and six before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , so it will begin a year full of excitement. In addition to Chris Hemsworth returning to the lead role, the screen will also feature Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale, and of course Taika as Korg. The plot will be based on comic strands, and we will see in it, among others a female version of Thor. We are looking forward to more surprising news from the set.
