On Wednesday, Amazon Studios announced that Wayne Che Yip has joined the team behind the series set in the Lord of the Rings universe . The director will shoot a total of four episodes of the picture and will act as executive producer. In addition to him, the same positions are held by the Spaniard Juan Antonio Bayona, entrusted with two episodes.
Briton Yip already has a lot of experience with various fantasy genres. His CV includes such productions as Salem , Doktor Who , Preacher or Doom Patrol . He also co-creates another adaptation of the fantasy series for Amazon – Circle of Time , Robert Jordan. In an official statement, the director stated that it was a great honor for him to work on a project set in Tolkien’s world.
Unlike Peter Jackson’s iconic films, Amazon’s production will not be played at the same times. Instead, the creators will take viewers thousands of years back to the Second Age. The action is to take place in numerous locations well-known to fans of Tolkien’s work. Among the places that will appear in the production are the Misty Mountains, the capital of the Elves Lindon and the island of Númenor, where the ancestors of the Dúnedain came from. On the screen we will see characters known from books as well as those created especially for the picture. In times of relative peace, the heroes will face a growing evil that wants to take control of Middle-earth.
Currently, work on the series is carried out in New Zealand. The premiere of the first season is scheduled for this year.
