Despite initial doubts among some fans, the Dragon House can boast a lot of interest. The success of the series meant that a decision was made quite quickly to continue it in the next season. Unfortunately, there are indications that Season 1 Executive Producer Jocelyn Diaz will not be returning to the dev team.
According to Deadline , the contract Diaz signed with HBO only lasted until the end of the first season and there is no plan to extend it. The producer’s departure was announced shortly after Miguel Sapochnik’s resignation as co-creator of the series, which assumed the position of executive producer. The main creator was therefore Ryan Condal, working closely with George RR Martin on the further fate of the production.
In an interview with Variety, Condal revealed his feelings about Sapochnik’s resignation.
We talked in the summer – right after the premiere of the series. I knew it was something he was struggling with. There is nothing left to prove in Westeros. He filmed every kind of battle: good against evil, light and dark, fantasy and not fantasy. He said what he had to say at Westeros. I knew there was always the possibility that he would do one season and be proud to be able to tell a Game of Thrones story . [..] is incredibly talented and I’m really proud of the work we’ve done. But I’m excited to see what’s in store right now.
When asked about his feelings about entering the role of the main creator of the series, he admitted that he felt both excitement and enormous pressure to face the challenge.
It’s a lot. This is one of those things where I have heard presidents say that they always have more fear of a second term than the first because they already know what they are going to do. I definitely don’t compare this job to the presidency, but it’s lonely at the top, and now I’m on top of it myself. Fortunately, I have a great team around me. I’m excited about the story we’re going to tell in Season 2. Thousands of people work on this series and I have to be a great leader and try to inspire people, I hope with good writing I can get the best out of them and create another great season.
Responsibility for the second season of the series, without Diaz and Sapochnik, therefore rests solely on the shoulders of Ryan Coral. The producer has previously been involved in films such as Rampage: Wild Fury (2018) or Hercules (2014)
