Talks are already underway to create a rebot of Naked Arms – a cult comedy trilogy, in which Leslie Nielsen played the role of detective Frank Dreblin . Apparently, now the main role will be given to an actor known from, for example , The Phantom Menace or The Taken, Liam Neeson.
The directing will be by Akiva Schaffer , who previously also worked on Star Life , and Chip ‘ n Dale: RR Brigade . It also looks like writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand will be co-director once again . Production will go to Fuzzy Door Productions – a company founded by the creator of Family Guy , Seth MacFarlane .
The Naga Arms series are feature-length spin-offs of the Special Brigade series . In both cases, the main character was played by Leslie Nielsen, and the script was written by a trio from the film Is there a pilot with us? aka David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker. According to reports, the plot details are not yet determined, but we know that Liam Neeson will play the main character. The actor is to play the son of Lieutenant Drebin, known from the original.
We heard about Neeson’s participation in the project in January, during the actor’s conversation with People :
I was approached by Seth MacFarlane from Paramount Studios about reviving the Naked Gun series . Either it will destroy my career or it will give it a new direction. I honestly have no idea.
So far, we have associated the actor mainly with action thrillers, such as Survival , three parts of The Abducted, or The Passenger . It is worth recalling, however, that Neeson appeared not only in such productions. We could hear his voice in the English version of Lego: Adventure and Gang Squirrel , titles for younger viewers. He also worked on the comedy concept with MacFarlane on the set of Ted 2, in which he made a guest appearance.
