Let yourself be carried away by the melody! – review of the movie “Sing 2”

When Sing debuted on the film market on January 6, 2016 , we didn’t know what the future of Garth Jennings’s work was. Today, the success of the animation is not surprising, what’s more – we have a sequel!

 

Show talent richly

The anthropomorphic heroes that we probably remember from the first part proved that they definitely have talent! The koala bear Buster Moon (Marcin Dorociński was replaced by Modest Ruciński) and Miss Crowly (Anna Apostolakis) successfully run their quite large theater, and among its stars are: the less shy elephant Meena (Katarzyna Sawczuk was replaced by Magdalena Wasylik), mother pig Rosita (Małgorzata Socha), Gunter piglet (Jarosław Boberek) and Johnny gorilla (Adam Zdrójkowski was replaced by Marek Molak). The female porcupine and the unquestionable rebel Ash (Ewa Farna was replaced by Lidia Sadowa) work on her own account. Mike aka Frank Sinatra (Krzysztof “Jankes” Jankowski) did not appear in the cast. I mention the changes to dubbing at the beginning of the review because it is a very important issue in my opinion.Singa vol. 1, you will surely notice the difference. And it is significant – the voices of Polish actors differ significantly from the voices of song performers … Nevertheless, nothing is lost! The DVD release, which will probably be available soon, will allow you to watch the animation with the original language track, and this is a real masterpiece (including Matthew McConaughey , Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Pharrell Williams, Bono and others)!

Music, let the fun go on!

We would describe Sing 2 as an animated musical. One of the scenes will stay in my memory for a very long time – when the audience shows the artist great support, not knowing that his performance depends only on this moment. I am still humming I still haven’t found what I’m looking for … The emotion is palpable and the chills are felt all over the body! We remain in delight practically throughout the screening, listening to fragments of songs. And since I’m a music freak, I’ll throw a few titles: Coldplay ( A Sky Full of Stars ), Adele ( Hello ), Prince’a ( Let’s go crazy ), Alicii Keys ( Girl on Fire ), U2 ( Stuck In a Moment You Can ‘ t Get Out Of ), Billie Eilish ( Bad Guy), Aerosmith (I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing), Eda Sheerana & Beyoncé (Perfect), Ariany Grande & Zedda (Break Free), The Struts Halsley (Could Have Been Me), Drake’a (Hotline Bling), Taylor Swift (Look What You Made Me Do), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Heads Will Roll), Arethy Franklin (I Say a Little Prayer), Shawna Mendesa (There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back) czy System of a Down (Chop Suey!). Musically, we feel divine, and what about the plot? A bit worse, but we still have nothing to complain about. The heroes are colorful, as are their adventures. According to the director’s concept, this part focuses more on the personal development of each of the characters, although in the end they will perform together on a stage in Redshore City (such an animated Las Vegas). Buster Moon’s initiative allows dreams to come true, but before it does, the heroes must convince the artist, the lion Clay Calloway, whose star had died out several years earlier, to cooperate. The plot of Sing 2it will probably remind you a bit of the first part (after all, the heroes are still struggling with their weaknesses), but most of all it is a really successful sequel that can delight. I have one, quite good advice for you – do not watch the trailers, they reveal too many secrets of the animation and spoil the atmosphere!

And two more words

The loveliest and perhaps the most colorful character in the sequel is Miss Crowly. In one of the scenes, she races in a sports car in search of Calloway, enjoying the note of System of a Down in the speakers, in the next – she loses her eye and instead installs a completely ordinary, undisputed ripe apple. The female iguanas are also great at becoming Moon’s official replacement. It is a complete character, developed in the best possible way. Gunter is also funny, who as the originator of the performance feels pressure and is heavily involved in the show. However, I cannot help feeling that the creators wanted so much to enrich their animation with a noveltythat they forgot the target target. During the screening I attended, children under 10 seemed a bit bored, or maybe tired, older – they watched with interest the production of Illuminaton Studios (also responsible for such titles as Minions and The Secret Life of Pets ). Perhaps the large number of threads does not allow the recipient to focus for longer. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the animation is characterized by a kind of didacticism, which will lead to unambiguous conclusions: it is worth fighting if there is a chance that our plan may succeed!

From America to Poland

In the cinema, we can enjoy a really good screening! Sing 2 appears on the Polish screens of the Cinema City network in a dubbed version (warm applause for the Start International Polska studio!), But unfortunately there is one drawback of such a solution – songs performed by artists remain in their original language versions. These are not some random (and less known) pieces, but still … Viewers who speak English well enough to decode the hidden meanings may experience more fun from the screening than those who only hum a familiar melody under their noses. However, it should be emphasized that Sing 2 without itremains a beautiful and highly kinetic animation. My only regret is that the creators did not decide to introduce more confusion in the old team of Moon and did not expand the “evil” motivation with some additional flavors. The choreographer’s aversion to Johnny or the wolf-rich character is not fully understood. The ending is predictable, but let’s not forget that this animation is primarily for young audiences.
