Leia, the ruthless leader? – review of the comic book “Star Wars Comics: Revenge for Betrayal”, vol. 13

After the betrayal of Queen Trios, the Rebels look for a way to repay the beautiful ruler for what she needs. Should they completely destroy her planet? Or maybe act in accordance with the moral principles of the Resistance? And how to do this without a huge fleet at your disposal? Princess Leia herself and her companions will be responsible for taking revenge.

Retro cover

The first thing that catches the reader’s attention is a well-made cover. At first it didn’t impress me very much, but after a while I started to notice her subtle artistry. Here we see Luke piloting a ship and a space battle scene taken alive from a New Hope . But what is the appeal of this illustration? It is not created in a typical “comic” style. Here we get a beautiful watercolor, reminiscent of posters of space saga movies from the 1970s. I love retro style, and the cover of Revenge for Betrayal is the best example of how this style should be used correctly.

Han Solo alive

We can also praise drawings by Andrey Broccardo and Angel Uznzueta from the very beginning. I love when characters in the Star Wars comics resemble their movie counterparts. Unfortunately, cartoonists often fall into fantasy when depicting such icons as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Here, however, the artists did not disappoint. Reading the comic book, we can feel like we are watching another movie with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill in our youth. Each frame is actually a photorealistic portrait of the actors, which has an amazing impact on the atmosphere of the story and the character of the characters.

Leia you don’t know yet

Have you ever envisioned the benevolent Princess Leia as a soulless, ready for anything, ruthless leader? Revenge for treason shows us a slightly darker part of the soul of the heroine of the Resistance Movement. As you already know from the short storyline of the comic, the princess must take revenge on Queen Trios for the treacherous act that caused the Rebellion to lose most of its mighty fleet. Leia is torn between bloody force and pity for a hostile planet, but it is a clear part of her nature that dominates the story. A completely different portrayal of a well-known heroine is a great treatment. Leia finally becomes a strong leader.

Unfortunately, I don’t like the way the next Star Wars Comics series is released . Other series from the same universe have, for example, a stiffened cardboard cover. The comic book is, however, an ordinary paper binding. Perhaps this is due to the greater investment possibilities of this solution, costs, and so on, but the aesthetically pleasing edition loses a lot of it. Moreover, it is very easy to destroy a volume that has been produced in this way. I know that in the case of the Star Wars Komiks series, paper covers are a tradition, but in my case they will always be negative points.

The plot for the 6

As for the storyline of the novel, it’s really good. We get here a full-fledged, independent story about an extensive guerrilla action on a completely new planet. Epic shootings, lots of action and characters that have not yet been in the Star Wars universe await readers . The charm of the whole is also added by flavors and references. Here we meet, for example, the mysterious followers of the cult of death, Central Izoptera. He wants to know a little more about them, except that they come to dying worlds to worship their doom. The internal disputes of the rebels, the desire for revenge, fidelity to the ideals of the Resistance – all these elements create an extensive, deep history of Revenge for Treason .

A photorealistic story

Beautiful illustrations in which the characters look identical to the movies invariably delight me in each new volume of the series. In this part, we get an exciting guerrilla action and we see Princess Leia, unlike anything we have met before – a ruthless, even cruel leader of the Rebellion. Great read.

Nasza ocena: 7/10

Photorealistic comics from the world of Star Wars always win me. If we add to this a changed image of Princess Leia and a really interesting action, we get a guaranteed success.
