Lady Gaga stars as wacky Harley Quinn in the new movie Joker: Folie à Deux. Once again, we will see a scene on the famous New York stairs.
Joker: Folie à Deux is currently in production. The sequel will see the return of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Lady Gaga’s DC debut as Harley Quinn. Recent photos from the set have given fans a first look at the singer’s take on the comic book character. New videos from the production show him paying homage to the previous film. More photos from the set have surfaced on the Internet, in which Gaga is in the most iconic place of the first film: on the stairs where the Joker danced.
The now iconic staircase that connects Shakespeare and Anderson Avenues on West 167th Street in the Bronx has become a popular tourist destination, and director Todd Phillips seems eager to return to this location. What will Joker: Folie à Deux be about ?
Not much is known about the sequel adaptation of the story of the two comic book supervillains. Folie à Deux – meaning “delusions or mental illness shared by two people in a close relationship” – was previously reported to have mostly taken place in Arkham , where Quinn treats the Joker like a patient. Other rumors have suggested that the Joker sequel is a musical because it is from Quinn’s perspective “that’s how she sees things”.
In addition to Phoenix and Gaga, the cast of Joker 2 included Catherine Keener ( Being John Malkovich ), Brendan Gleeson ( The Banshees of Inisherin ) and Harry Lawtey ( Industry ) in undisclosed roles. Zazie Beetz, who played Arthur’s neighbor Sophie Dumond in the first film, reprises her role.
How did Margot Robbie react to the news that Lady Gaga will be played by Harley Quinn?
Margot Robbie is known for playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad , Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad . The Joker isn’t set in the same universe as the DCEU, which means Lady Gaga won’t replace Robbie and could still return as a character in the future. Recently, Robbie spoke to MTV News and expressed excitement about Harley’s alternative portrayal.
I’m very happy because I said right from the start that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, like Macbeth or Batman – she always goes from great actor to great actor. It’s a bit like someone made their Batman or someone made their Macbeth. (…) It is a great honor that we have built such a strong foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors can try to play. And I think he’s going to do something amazing with it.
