Kenya Barris, creator of “I Can See It”, will direct the reboot of The Wizard of Oz from Warner Bros

The Wizard of Oz will get a remake! Deadline on Monday announced that Kenya Barris, creator of I Can See It , is to write and direct a new version of the cult fantasy classic for Warner Bros. His company, Khalabo Ink Society, will be producing it.

Details about Barris’s version of The Wizard of Oz are kept secret, but the remake is described as a fresh take on the generations of Dorothy Gale and the Land of Oz. Naturally, the film will be based on the 1900 book of the same name by L. Frank Baum.

Until now, the most famous adaptation was the one from the 1939 MGM, in which Judy Garland stars as Dorothy, a young farmer from Kansas who, along with her dog Toto, is kidnapped by a tornado into the colorful and magical Land of Oz. This particular adaptation of Baum’s book – which itself is only part of a series of 13 novels – has become a classic, and the props and items on the set have become collectibles – including one of the cans of oil used by the Tin Woodcutter, which was put up for auction last summer. and one of the blue checkered dresses worn by Dorothy Garland in the film, found after decades of disappearance.

Will the remake also prove successful? Time will tell.
