Dragon Ball: Evolution
It is a title that, at the very slogan about it, makes hair stand out on the heads of Dragon Ball fans all over the world. I am embarrassed to say that the authors of the film decided to drift on the wave of popularity of teen films and clumsily transform the amazing reality from manga cards into a sweet crap with the consequences of growing up. The film begins with the unusual training of 18-year-old Son Goku and his grandfather. First question – why old man Gohan is still alive, even though he shouldn’t? At this point, it is important to realize that the plot in the movie is not the one we know from the series, it is only slightly based on it and tells a completely alternative story. Goku, the school boy, goes to high school and has a crush on his friend – Chi Chi. Soon, the main character meets the future adventurer Bulma and the main antagonist of the counterfeit orc from the Tolkien trilogy – Lord Piccolo. This sounds like a joke? Unfortunately, it is not. In eighty-five minutes, at least four stories intertwined without order and composition were merged together. A side effect of the procedure turned out to wash Goku’s world of what is most valuable – Akira Toriyama’s indiscriminate humor and extraordinary imagination. Director James Wong admitted that he did not read the work of the famous mangaka while working on the film. He did this only after negative reviews from film critics and fans of the series. He apologized, but the disgust after the release of the great crap of cinematography branded with the cult title “Dragon Ball” remained. I sincerely advise against watching this movie.
