Even though The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series is now over, it has definitely made some impact on the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did it advance the stories of the two titular characters, it also brought to live-action some other characters that are known to Marvel Comics’ readers. Next to Power Broker, Isaiah Bradley or Battlestar there was also Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a very well informed person with probable ties with criminal underground or shady government institutions. Or, more likely, both.
However, this is not the way she was supposed to be introduced to MCU. She was initially going to debut in the Black Widow movie, but the release schedule had to be changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Disney+ series came out first. Yet it does not mean Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character is done. And according to Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore she may be back quite soon:
[Louis-Dreyfus] is so talented and you can do so much with her. And she’s game for it. She certainly didn’t come to us and say, ‘I’ll be in one show once.’ She was like, ‘I want to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.’ And we said, ‘Great! Let’s get you in and let’s figure out how to use you.’ And the truth is, I think you will see her in the future. Definitely.
Another producer, Zoie Nagelhout explained how it happened, that Valentina de Fontaine was written into The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:
We were like, we’ve got to bring somebody into John Walker’s world that challenges him, that maybe gives him a glimmer of hope but hope that is tainted because his character is all about a search for identity that is maybe a bit problematic. As soon as we figured out [Val’s] the right character for that role, [Louis-Dreyfus] came quickly after.
Even though it’s difficult to foresee when and where will Louis-Dreyfus’ character reappear, it will definitely be worth the wait. And perhaps next time she will be more clear about what weirdness awaits in a universe that already has androids, aliens and wizards.
