Jubilee adventures of warriors – a review of the comic book “Kajko i Kokosz – Złota Collection”, vol. 4

If you love the characters of Kajek and Kokosz, and are interested in the history of their adventures, the Golden Collection should be on your shopping list as soon as possible. Renewed issues of comics, articles full of curiosities and archival entries – these are just some of the attractions that await readers of this collection.

Christy’s friend introduction

Before we move on to the comics themselves, after opening the volume we find an introduction written by Sławomir W. Malinowski. This journalist and film producer describes here his experiences with Janusz Christa, in whose house he was a frequent guest. There are even photos from the author’s private album. Did you know that Christa himself went into space? It may be symbolic, but it matters to me!

Four classic stories

In the fourth volume of the Golden Collection, as many as four stories about brave warriors await us. These are: The Flying School, The Great Tournament, On Vacation and The Attack on Milusia . For those familiar with the adventures of Kajek and Kokosz, it will be a wonderful journey into the past. As for those who are yet to hear these stories… well, suffice it to say, I envy them immensely! These stories, despite the simplicity and the passage of time, are still extremely funny, and the drawings have not aged a bit.

What awaits us here?

Flying school shows us how magic works in this extraordinary world. In The Great Tournament, we accompany Kajek and Kokosz in their search for a brave ram to represent Mirmiłowo in the title competition. On Holiday is a great parody of the reality of the People’s Republic of Poland, which, however, entertains just as effectively nowadays. In the Assassination of Miluśand we will meet… the dragon. From that moment on, he will become an inseparable part of the castellan Mirmił’s team of brave warriors. The strength of the comics about Kajek and Kokosz are beautiful illustrations and charismatic heroes. Here we will meet robbers together with the wicked Hegemon, Mirmił will not spare his cult sayings, and the robber Łamignat will still cause trouble. The humor is timeless and the fantastical elements refer to our local legends.

There are also plenty of extras

The extras are definitely the most interesting element of the collection, especially for older readers. Their author is Krzysztof Janicza, the author of a blog devoted entirely to the work of Janusz Christa. What’s more, Janicza is not afraid to point out mistakes and mistakes to his idol. We will even get here frames that are taken out of Asterix ! However, this does not take away from Mr. Christ, who in the communist reality managed to create a great comic book modeled on the West, but adapted to the needs of our local audience.

A real treasure for comic book fans

The golden collection is a treasure in the library of every fan, not only of Kajek and Kokosz, but of comics in general. The beautifully published collection contains, apart from comics, also a whole lot of interesting facts about the development of this species in our native conditions. The adventures of brave warriors Mirmiła is, to put it simply, Asterix transferred to Polish conditions. And thus contains gags that only we will understand. This is a classic that we can proudly present to the youngest. Let the fame of Mirmiłowa carry on!
