According to the latest reports, we will soon see Bernthal again in the role of the iconic antihero. He is set to return in a new series for Disney+.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing anonymous sources, the Punisher is set to return in Daredevil: Born Again . Fan favorite Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the antihero. Marvel Studios has not yet commented on these reports. In earlier interviews, the actor expressed his desire to reprise his role as an antihero. The head of Marvel Studios – Kevin Feige – spoke in a similar tone, noting that he does not see anyone else as the Punisher.
Bernthal made his debut as Frank Castle in the second season of Daredevil , which was then airing on Netflix. The actor made such a good impression on the producers that even before the premiere of that series, the decision was made to shoot a spinoff focused on The Punisher. The series ran for two seasons before Netflix’s partnership with Marvel ended.
So far, it has been confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will see Charlie Cox return in the title role and Vincent D’Onofrio, who will return as the Kingpin. Both actors were important elements of Netflix’s production and have already had the opportunity to make a full-fledged debut in the MCU (for now, the canonicity of the earlier series is uncertain). Cox had a brief cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and also appeared in several episodes of Patron She-Hulk . By contrast, D’Onofrio was the main antagonist of the Hawkeye series . There are also rumors about a possible return of Krysten Ritter to the role of Jessica Jones in Born Again , but so far they have not been confirmed.
Daredevil: Born Again is set to start filming later this month. The premiere is planned for next year.
