It looks like work on  Todd Phillips’  sequel to Joker , Joker: Films a Deux , will start before the end of this year. The cinematographer revealed that shooting would begin within the next few weeks.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , cinematographer Lawrence Sher commented on her work on  Black Adam , as well as revealed that work on a sequel to  The Joker will begin within five or six weeks . Sher added that the film will be shot primarily on sound stages in Los Angeles. A location in New York was also chosen. Joaquin Phoenix will play the role of Arthur Fleck again, and Lady Gaga will appear alongside him as Harley Quinn.

It’s gonna be a really cool fit for this movie and it will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin introduced. The combination of these two will be exactly what we want, which is exciting and we will see the magic every day on the set. We hope there will be a bit of madness there as well. We like it when there is a little chaos.

Sher said about the duo.

In August, it was revealed that Joker: Folie a Deux will be released on October 4, 2024 – exactly five years after the original Joker was released. The first part turned out to be a box office hit, amassing over a billion dollars in profits and receiving nominations in eleven Oscar categories (of which it won two). Therefore, talks on the continuation had been going on for three years. The subtitle Folie a Deux refers to a medical condition where two or more people begin to share their delusions with each other. This is meant to imply that Harley Quinn will be a key influence on the Joker (and with reciprocity).

Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn – a character previously played by Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, The  Suicide  Squad ). Remember that the Joker in Phillips’ interpretation does not belong to the  DCEU canon , so Robbie may still return to the role in the future. In a recent interview with MTV News, the actress expressed her excitement for this new take on Harley.

I am very happy because, as I said from the very beginning, I would like Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, like Macbeth and Batman, who go from great actor to great actor. It’s a bit like someone making their own Batman or Macbeth. I feel that in not so many cases these are female characters – Queen Elizabeth I for example, whom I had the honor of playing. I thought, “Wow! Cate Blanchett played Elizabeth I. Now it’s my turn. ” It’s a great honor to be able to build such a strong foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters for other actors to interpret. Plus, I think (Lady Gaga) will create something amazing.
