Although film music composers often go unnoticed by viewers, it is thanks to them that the productions take on their magical character. Today’s birthday is celebrated by one of the masters of the genre – John Williams.
The American composer was born on February 8, 1932 in New York and has so far created music for almost one hundred films. He was interested in this subject from the very beginning and, deciding to devote his life to her, began to study in this field. His father, who played the drums professionally, had an influence on his musical upbringing. At the age of 6, he began learning to play the piano, and soon also to play the cello, trombone, trumpet, bassoon and clarinet. After moving to California, he enrolled at the university there, taking the course of orchestration and composition. He continued his education at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, while playing in jazz bars. He came to television in the 1950s, when he started working on composing soundtracks for programs and series.
His first great success was music for Lost in Kosmos, popular in the United States . A few years later, he received the first Oscar nomination in his life for the musical setting of the film Valley of the Dolls . More and more often he appeared as a nominee in this category and so far he has received a total of 5 Oscars, and there were over 50 nominations alone. In addition to the Oscars, he has also won the BAFTA, Saturn, Grammy and Golden Globes awards several times. in 2009 he was also awarded the National Medal of Arts by the then president – Barack Obama.
Among the dozens of soundtracks created by John Williams, the most recognizable are those of the first three parts of Harry Potter and Star Wars . He also composed music for the films Jurassic Park, Kevin Home Alone, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Fiddler on the Roof, Book Thief , as well as many, many other iconic soundtracks that have remained in the hearts of fans.
