DC fans were shocked to learn that Henry Cavill’s adventure as Superman has come to an end. Speculation quickly arose that the actor may return to the universe, but as a different character. James Gunn denied these rumors, and thus indicated that Cavill is officially still associated with DC Studios.
Henry Cavill has appeared on screen as Superman five times, but his time playing the Man of Steel has sadly come to an end . Even with a guest appearance by Black Adam , the actor as Clark Kent will not be seen in future DC Universe productions . When it became clear that someone else would take over the job of Superman, there were rumors that the Justice League star could return to the franchise, but in a different role, namely Frankenstein from the animated series Creature Commandos . DC Studios VP James Gunn says he’s spoken to Cavill about other potential DCU engagements, but Frankenstein isn’t one of them.
Completely false. We already have Frankenstein – our first choice – and it’s not Henry. We never talked to him about it.
Gunn wrote in response to a Twitter rumor.
Contrary to popular opinion, the actor was not formally fired. Instead, DC Studios representatives decided to go in a different direction, given the age and enormity of the plot attributed to Superman. As such, Cavill was not approached to return to the role for a new leg of the franchise.
Some. We do not know. We talked to Gal [Gadot]. She is eager to act. We’re not sure what we’ll do next. All I can say right now is that Henry and Ben [Affleck] will not be part of that universe. It is also important to say that Henry Cavill was not fired. Henry just wasn’t hired as Superman in the new Superman movie.
