Jack Black is one of the many eager to see the Red Dead Redemption movie. Video game adaptations are now something people can ask for with much more confidence. Over the years, these types of productions have not been very good. However, we have seen a lot of progress in the last few years. It looks like Hollywood is starting to crack the code of game adaptations and even moving forward with more, which would probably have been considered a risky move just a decade ago.
Jack Black recently spoke to the BBC about other game adaptations he would like to see. The actor gave The Last of Us high praise and praised the series for sticking close to its source material. He then remarked that he would like to see a Red Dead Redemption movie , implying that it has a story equal to or even better than The Last of Us.
The Last of Us was fantastic. And what’s crazy is how faithful it is to the original source material. Basically everything comes from the game with just a few tweaks. He will win all the prizes. They used a video game almost like a storyboard, and I thought, Wow, this looks the same. There are also some great games yet to be discovered on TV or film. Maybe a Red Dead Redemption movie ? It should be because I think it [has] as good or even a better story than The Last of Us .”
It is unknown at this time if something like this will ever happen. Rockstar Games has been very protective of its assets, especially after the Max Payne movie turned out to be a disaster. Nevertheless, given the scope and scale of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead , we probably won’t see movies for either of them anytime soon.
