Much has been written about mythical creatures. However, there is still no evidence that would cement their position among animals. One such creature is Yeti, a Himalayan monster. The title of the fairy tale leaves no illusions - this is what the review will be about today!
I’ve heard this story somewhere before
That year, a review of the film Little Foot appeared at the Last Tavern . The animation told about a successful search for the yeti. In the meantime, the topic returned many times, but not on the big screen anymore. Only in 2019, a new film appeared in cinemas – O Yeti! For a long time I was wondering about the English title of this Polish-Chinese animation. I’m in a hurry with explanations. The English title is Abominable , simply translated “disgusting, nasty”. It was only in the Longman English Dictionary that I found the information that after adding “snowman” to “abominable”, we get – in translation – the snow man. And all clear. Nevertheless, I believe that the title of O Yeti!it fits much more with the character of a children’s movie.

Famous heroes in the Chinese edition
The heroes are no strangers to us. The same themes, used many times, make the graphic difference between the animations somehow blur. Since the movie is about a yeti, everything is clear. From an adult perspective, however, such films never remain the same. A bold step taken by the creators of O Yeti! was to place history in the Chinese cultural circle. The heroes Yi, Jin and Peng are clearly not from the European continent. This solution was necessary due to the story idea – the yeti is to reach the top of the Himalayas with the above-mentioned heroes. Where will it get closer to him? Certainly not from Europe or America, but from China!

Cultural inspirations
It’s hard to resist the impression that we’ve already seen our yeti (whose name is Everest) somewhere. Maybe not in such a white robe, but … the media world leaves us a huge field to show off. For me, Everest is the twin brother of Om Nom, a popular hero in movies and games for younger children. We can distinguish such similarities as: a wide smile with almost all teeth visible, a love of consumption and a friendly disposition. At first glance, both characters are very friendly and this is probably how the youngest perceive them. As it turns out, there is another reason why Everest’s behavior can win the favor of small viewers. Yeti himself is still a child and his trip to the Himalayas is an attempt to find his parents and family.

What distinguishes this animation?
During the year, we can see over twenty animations in cinemas. And sometimes even more. What are the producers to do to make their animation peak of popularity? Surprise kids and their parents! I must admit that the story of a little yeti is predictable from the very beginning. Nevertheless, the adventures of a group of friends can amuse us almost to tears. In addition, the production also includes touching scenes, during which older viewers will have tears in their eyes. The visual and sound setting of the production deserves special attention. Friends visit many magical places in China, and the viewer does so with them. In addition, the right music makes it easy to relax in front of the cinema screens.
