FANTASTIC 2023: MORE THAN HUMAN is the next edition of the event organized by the Municipal Public Library in Sosnowiec, addressed to fantasy fans
The event will take place on June 13-17, 2023, and participation in all events is free. The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
This year’s edition will be held under the slogan “More than a man”. The theme of the attractions taking place during the event clearly indicates that this “more” is body modifications significantly exceeding what nature predicted. Sometimes these are modifications created in the laboratories of large corporations in a dystopian future, and sometimes in the laboratories of magicians as mutagens to help fight monsters. During the project, various attractions will be presented, which will appeal to different tastes and fandoms.
Fans of fantasy will be able to listen to a conversation with Robert J. Szmidt – the author of, among others, a cyberpunk novel, post-apocalyptic novels and space operas.
Comics, The Witcher and cyberpunk enthusiasts will be able to listen to a conversation with Bartosz Sztybor – journalist, publicist, film and comics critic, comic book writer. Author of scripts for comics from the world of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 .
Manga and anime lovers who have a lot of ideas, but do not yet have enough skills, will be able to sign up for a practical introduction to drawing manga. Workshops will show you where to start and how to develop your talent.
Supporters of new technologies will have the opportunity to take advantage of the VR zone, where – after putting on the goggles – it will be possible to move to a fantasy world, to the top of a skyscraper or to a space station.
There will also be something for people who want to get to know RPG games. Adult fans will be able to take part in an interactive RPG session, during which the Game Master and Players will engage the audience in their actions, explaining how the game looks like, how much such a hobby costs and giving tips to less experienced players and masters. The younger ones will have the opportunity to take part in an intimate RPG session in a system designed especially for them.
There will also be a “Planszowisko” for amateurs of spending time with board games. There will be games with a wide range of topics and varying degrees of complexity.
Cinema fans will have the opportunity to see two very interesting films. For younger viewers, there is a story about a young genius constructor who, together with his robot, will try to save the city from destruction. For the older ones, an adaptation of the Gunnm manga has been prepared – about a girl who wakes up in a futuristic world she doesn’t know, with a past she can’t remember…
We also propose participation in two competitions. The first one is a literary competition for a story in the style of cyberpunk or postpunk, whose main message is the slogan “More than a man”. The second one is a competition for a photo collage with low-cost cosplay. The following will be rewarded: a simple concept, creativity, sense of humor and self-distance. It is worth noting that financial prizes await the winners of the competitions.
There will be something worthy of attention for everyone, everyone will have the opportunity to get to know and try things they have not had contact with before. And this, according to the Organizers, is a form of self-improvement, maybe not as impressive as bioimplants, but available to everyone, free of charge, and in a modern building with easy access.
