Difficult topic of otherness, exclusion and acceptance
The plot is the most beautiful and heart-touching element of Kurozając . The animation tells about half a hare, half a chicken who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a recognizable traveler. The beginnings are not pleasant, but later the adventure finds the title character itself. Setting out on it, he unconsciously embarks on the path of discovering himself – his true self.
It is extremely easy to sympathize with Kurozając. We accompany him in difficult times, also in the lonely ones, which makes us become attached to him and we are able to sympathize with him or feel proud of his achievements.
Indiana Jones fans will also find something for themselves. The atmosphere of the animation strongly refers to it, and the courage of the main character is as great as the boldness of the iconic adventurer.
Experiencing the adventures with Kurozając, I was very moved myself. In few productions I have seen the problem of exclusion so aptly presented. I am glad that the kids can watch such an animation, which proves that the pursuit of acceptance in society is difficult and breakneck; where the main character becomes happy when he finally begins to live in harmony with himself. Rejection, unfortunately, is still a common phenomenon, it can happen to anyone, so it’s admirable that the creators raised this topic.

New Zootopia ?
While discussing this production, I heard several opinions that it aesthetically resembles Disney’s Zwierzogród . Nothing could be more wrong. Although it is still about animated animals, Kurozając and the Hamster of Darkness has its own style, which can be seen especially in the designs of various locations. From the great castle, to the desert and glacial landscape – each subsequent location provides a kind of breath of freshness, which means that there is no place for boredom.
Polish dubbing remains in shape and delights once again. Nikodem Rozbicki was cast in the main role , and apart from him we can hear, among others Wiktoria Gąsiewska or Jędrzej Taranek. The voices are perfectly matched to the characters, giving them authenticity. The emotions that are so important to this production are played out very real.
To the adventure!
The curiosity and mystery of the Dark Hamster deserves the attention of both the younger and the older ones in one hundred percent. A touching story, original characters and aesthetic, colorful and diverse animation are an hour and a half of really good fun, which gives food for thought and reminds us that we should love ourselves as we really are.
