Although online only, the San Diego Comic-Con will be held this year. Certainly many aspects of the event (some of them are already known) will change, but it is always a step towards a return to normalcy. Here is what is currently known about SDCC 2021.
Comic-Con International has been canceled, but San Diego Comic-Con will be held. In a changed form and under the name Comic-Con Special Edition, however, it will bring 2021 closer to the reality known before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to recently announced information, the event has been shifted from summer to the week of Thanksgiving in the United States and reduced from 7 to 3 days: November 26-28. Not yet specified, inter alia the cost of tickets and the number of seats. David Glanzer, a Comic-Con spokesman, said moving to the web has consequences:
While we may have moved away from face-to-face meetings towards limited online events, losses have hit the small businesses involved in the organization considerably, with reduced work requirements and lower wages, and these are not the only problems. Hopefully this event will allow us to strengthen our financial reserves and usher in a gradual return to larger live meetings in 2022.
This year’s Comic-Con will be much more modest than what you could get used to. It remains to be hoped that despite everything it will turn out to be a success and meet the expectations of comic book, film and fantasy fans.
